Ancient astronomer Ptolemy proposed the geocentric model of the universe in the 2nd century AD. According to this model, planets moved in small circles called epicycles, which in turn moved in larger circles around the Earth. This theory was later replaced by the heliocentric model proposed by Copernicus in the 16th century.
Galieo invented the first telescope. The cristance locked him in his own house because everybody thought the earth was the centre of universe. Galieo saw that the earth was actually rotating around the sun. Everybody were angry and put him under house arrest. Years later, we found out that Galieo was all right along.
Galileo's observations of Jupiter and its moons provided compelling evidence against the geocentric model, which positioned Earth at the center of the universe. By observing the four largest moons of Jupiter, now known as the Galilean moons, he demonstrated that not all celestial bodies orbit the Earth; instead, these moons orbited Jupiter. This contradicted the geocentric view and supported the heliocentric model proposed by Copernicus, which posited that the planets, including Earth, orbit the Sun. Galileo's discoveries marked a significant shift in our understanding of the cosmos, highlighting the complexity of celestial mechanics.
Galieo was the first astronomer to view Jupiter's moons through a telescope and proved the heliocentric model.

Galileo was found guilty of heresy by the Inquisition in 1633 for advocating the heliocentric model of the universe, which contradicted the geocentric model supported by the Catholic Church at that time. His sentence included house arrest, and he was required to formally renounce his beliefs.
