Who is Antinous?

One of Penelopes suitors, and also one of the worst suitors. Antinous is the most obnoxious of Penelope's suitors, when Odysseus returns, he is the one that abuses him the most by breaking a chair over his back and insulting him when Odysseus says that he wants to try to bend Odysseus's bow. He is the suitor that plans to kill Telemachus, as well as the one that Odysseus kills first.

What was Odysseus plan for the bow?

I'm not sure what you mean his 'plan for the bow' but in The Odyssey the bow was used to challenge mens strength, first having a man attach the string to the wooden part of the bow and then use it to fire an arrow through the handle of axes (guessing that the axes handles had holes in it for hanging them up). Nearing the end of the story he and his son Telemachus use the bow in their plot to destroy the suitors who are using his food and home as their own and trying to marry his wife. The plot begins with the bow being brought out for the suitors, with Penelope (his wife) declaring she will marry anyone who can string and shoot it properly. The suitors all try and fail and as Odysseus is disguised as an old man they convince him to try, expecting him to fail also. He does it to their amazement and then shoots another arrow at one of the worst suitors Antinous. Odysseus and Telemachus (with help) murder all the suitors and housemaids after this and end up reclaiming their home.

Do Odysseus challenge Eurymachus to a work contest?

When Odysseus comes home to Ithaca, Penelope has set up a challenge for the suitors to win her hand. Whoever is able to string Odysseus' bow and shoot an arrow cleanly through the ax heads, they will win Penelope. (Penelope, however, has a pretty good idea that no one else will be able to string Odysseus' bow except for him, so while the contest appears fair to the suitors, in reality Penelope has developed a clever plan as to avoid marrying any of them.) None of the suitors are able to string the bow. Then Odysseus comes in. (Remember, he has been disguised by Athena as an old beggar, so no one recognizes him.) To make a long story short, Odysseus is able to successfully complete the contest. Also, it is important to know that Penelope and all of the women have been sent to a room and locked in because Odysseus plans on killing all of the suitors for their crime of attempting to marry Penelope (his wife) while he was still alive. So, Penelope is not aware that someone has won the contest, the someone being Odysseus (in disguise). At the point that Odysseus wins the contest, he becomes Odysseus again, or, rather, back to his recognizable form. The suitors recognize him. Odysseus tells them he's going to kill them and what their crimes were. So, Odysseus shoots, with his bow and arrows, Antinous, the ringleader of the suitors. However, before Odysseus can kill the rest of the suitors, Eurymachus, also a sort of ringleader, steps up to ask mercy of Odysseus. He promises payments back for all the food, etc. the suitors have used up. Odysseus doesn't accept his apology, and kills all the suitors anyhow.

What was Odysseus plan to kill the suitors?

There were several steps to his plan. It involved him depriving the suitors of all weapons except one only Odysseus was able to use and locking them in a room so they could not escape.

Why does Penolope set up a contest to string the bow of Odyssys?

Remember that Penelope told her suitors that she will decide whom she will marry when she has finished weaving her gift to Odysseus' father. But one of her suitors found out that she unwove what she did every night. So, Penelope thought of a plan that would stall her decision-making and set up a contest. The contest was that of the man who could string the bow of Odysseus, she would marry. And the bow was known to be toughest to string. And rumors say that only a man as strong as Odysseus can string it. Of course, no one was able to string it except for Odysseus who was disguised as a hermit. And Odysseus killed all Penelope's suitors.

How did Odysseus conquer the suitors?

Odysseus conquered the suitors in multiple ways:ManlinessOdysseus conquered the suitors through display of physical prowess first. He performed the feat of stringing his boy which no one other than his son Telemachus was able to do. Further, he was able to shoot the arrow through the 12 handholds of the axes, further disparaging the suitors, and accentuating their physical weaknesses between him and them. BattleOdysseus continued to defeat the suitors by proceeding to KILL THEM ALL. Odysseus plucked off suitor after suitor with his arrows. In addition to being a legendary archer, Odysseus was famed for his spear work; after he had run out of arrows, he proceeded to kill the suitors with his spear.
