The current excepted theory for the start of the universe is known as the "Big Bang Theory".
However, if you were interested in how the big bang occured, read on. According to String Theory everything is made up of tiny string like matter. The hunt for the theory of everything commenced by Einstein however he did not achieve his goal. String theory stated that the there were 9 dimensions plus time however this caused problems. There were 5 different versions of the string theory which contradicted each other. Meanwhile, the rival theory of supergravity was at the brink of extinction when some scientists decided to amalgamate string theory with the theory of supergravity and result into a new radical approach -M Theory. It suggested that there was 10 dimensions plus time. Scientists now believe that the big bang occured as a memebrane of a higher dimension parallel universe collided with another for the formation of our universe.

In the beginning there was nothing then the big bang happened. The universe expanded at an incredible rate before beginning to cool down. Then matter formed. Eventually the expansion will stop and the combined gravity of the universe will draw the universe back to nothing causing it to "shrink". Although this is one theory there is another that says the universe will never stop expanding due to a substance called dark matter (the opposite of gravity) pushing it ever outwards.
If you are referring to the Big Bang, I am afraid that there is not really an answer for you. Cosmology (the study of the universe and its origin) is such a recently developed science that there is yet not way to explain why the Big Bang occurred in any terms more than conjecture. It is thought to have been caused either by a collision or rubbing together of other universes, or a presence of enough room in the 'multiverse' for another universe to form. If you really want to pursue an answer to this question, the best answer I can give you is this: become a cosmologist.
The company that Joe works for at the beginning of the movie is called American Panascope.
You are thinking of the conservation of energy law which states energy can neither ber created or destroyed.
The scientific rule for when light returns to the medium from which it originated is called Reflection. The rule for where it helps predict where light will be reflected is called the Law of Reflection.
It's called the "Big Bang Theory." There's evidence that the universe is expanding, which means it all had to start from a single point. What caused this event is up for debate, as well as whether the universe will continue to expand forever, or reach a point and stop, then come back in on itself.
A person who believes that scientific laws rather than supernatural powers govern the universe is called a naturalist.
This was called geocentrism.

AstronomyThat is called "astronomy".Astronomy
The scientific name for outer space is galaxy. The galaxy that Earth is in is called the Milky Way Galaxy. Scientists may also refer to outer space as the Universe.
The useful application of scientific knowledge is called technology.

This is called the Geocentric model, from the latin prefix "Geo-" for earth or ground. This was dropped by the scientific community at the beginning of the renaissance for the Heliocentric model, which states that the sun is the center of the universe. However, even this has been abandoned. The general consensus now is that the universe has no definite center or, if it does, we can never find it due to the dimensional 'curvature' it has.
Some scientsists belivs that there was an explosion called the 'big bang' (Big Bang theory), that started it all off. If this was the case though, there probably wouldn't have been a bang though in the void of nothingness.
A statement that describes what scientists expect to happen every time under a particular set of conditions? Answer: Scientific Law
The big bang theory which is a theory of cosmology holding that the expansion of the universe began with a gigantic explosion between 12 and 20 billion years ago
