You drive slow and change gears too soon.
Probably a fuse. They are all linked together.
It does not have a cable, the speedometer is electric.

A 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee does "NOT" have a speedometer cable. It has an electronic speedometer with a built in motherboard. It receives its signsls from sensors on the transmission and the transfer case.
did you check the speedometer gear in the tranny?
Yes, there is a fuse for this. It should be labeled INST.
Correction; that should read "Idle speed motor" I thought this translated to an important question I didn't see here: "How do you replace a speedometer on a Jeep Grand Cherokee?" Mine, in my 1993 Grand Cherokee, has not worked properly for two years and a speedometer shop tried but couldn't fix it. I've been using my Tachometer to estimate MPH. Apologies to the original poster if the correction is yours. And sorry to everyone else since neither of these are answers.
A 2000 Jeep does not have a speedometer cable.
A 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not have a speedometer cable. The speedometer signal comes from a sensor on the transmission or transfer case.
Having the speedometer jump and the engine stall in the 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo could be a problem with the idle and the transmission. The transmission slipping can cause the speedometer to jump.
Loose wiring behind the dash.. Pull the cluster and check the wiring or check with the dealer they know about this problem and they may have issued a recall. Hope this helps
