By default C: is the active partition of the hard disk drive
Partition Magic is a partition managing software utility created by PowerQuest Corporation. It was changing moving, or copying hard drive partitions without data loss. It also allowed one to change their FAT file systems.
Most of the time the boot partition and the system partition are the same partition on the drive C.

A technician is attempting to create multiple partitions on a hard disk. This will allow for storing the operating system and data files on separate partitions. What is the maximum number of primary partitions per hard drive that is supported by Windows XP?
---- I had a similar problem in Linux and, after MUCHfrustration, digging, trial-and-error, I have answered my own question. I think this can help you as well.My problem was that I could not delete or resize two "unallocated partitions on my hard drive. All the options (unmount, resize, delete, etc.) were grayed out. I could not unmount them because they were in use.The answer was to download the GParted LIVE CD from: http://gparted.sourceforge.net.I simply inserted the GParted LIVE CD, rebooted, and -- voila! -- I could move, resize, and delete all my partitions at will! I believe this program will work in Windows as well, since it is dealing with hard drive partitions, and ot Operating systems on the drive.IMHO, the GParted utility is much easier to use then Partition Magic, and best of all, it is FREE!I hope this post can help others with a similar problem.Lloyd----
A map to the partitions on the hard drive. This table tells BIOS how many partitions the drive has and how each partitions is divided into one or more logical drives, which partition contains the drive to be used for booting (called the active partition), and where each logical drive begins and ends.1-map to the partitions on on the hard drive2-information about where each logical drive is located, where it starts and where it ends3-which partition contains the drive to be used for booting (the active partition)The first is a map to the partitions on the harddrive, and how they are divided, the second, which partition contains the drive to be used for booting this is called the "Active Partition", and third where each logical begin and ends.
boot partition
The system partition(a partition where the operating system is installed) is the active partition of the Hard Drive
Ther can only be one Extended Partition per hard drive
A partition table
The area on the hard drive that contains a map to all the partition on the drive is called the partition table. That is what partition utilities edit when you add, delete, convert, or resize a partition.
system partition
System partition
The active partition is the partition which is marked as Active in Index table. the status and locations of partitions are stored in MBR(master boot record). The active status tells the system which partition to boot from. System boots from the partition which contains the Operating System(windows XP, 2003.....). So the partition which contains the Operating System is Active partition and it is the Primary partition. So we can call the active partition as Bootable Partition or Primary Partition.
As many as it can handle (how big it is). And adding partitions does not make more space. It's like putting a brick wall in the middle of a football field. :-P This is depend on your disk style, if your disk is MBR, you could only create four primary partitions or three primary partitions with one Extended partition (you could create many logical partition under extended partition) at most If your disk style is GPT, you could create as many as you can. here is an article about how to make partition from http://www.partition-magic-windows7.com/res/create-partition-windows7.html
Yes, it will.
