Well of course one of the marks is a line/groove knotched on the harmonic balancer, and the other mark (the tab with the numbers) is on the timing cover behind the water pump. You are supposed to be able to see it from the topof the engine, while looking down through the back of the water pump, but I have a 1994 GMC van and I don't see how you have the room to get in there to see it. That's my problem.

If you are talking about ignition timing there are no marks. The timing is controlled by the computer according to various parmeters of sensors. If you are talking about valve timing the camshaft mark is on the head and the crankshaft mark is on the oil pump housing.
