To work out a pyramid of biomass, the dry masses of an organism is used because two of the same organisms could live in two different environments where one environment could be suffering from a drout whereas the other could live in a rainforest so to keep it fair they dry it out.

What three things are ecological pyramids used to represent?

An ecological pyramid was a concept developed by Charles Elton. It is a graphical representation designed to show the number of organisms, biomass of an ecosystem and energy relationships.

Does biomass energy only come from plants?

Biomass is material derived from living organisms. The term biomass for energy is often used to refer to plant based materials, but it can equally apply to animal, as well as vegetable matter--the key is 'living organisms'. So no, biomass engergy does not ONLY come from plants.

Where can you find biomass being used?

a biomass is made from rubbish, crops, etc........ a biomass can be used to fuel your car. plants use photosynthesis etc. hope i helped :)

What is biomass energy?

Biomass is a biolgical matter that is made of living or recently living plants or animal waste that can be used to make energy in many situations. It can also mean the total amount of mass given to a certain amount of species.Biomass is plant minerals and animal waste that is used as fuel

What is biomas energy?

Biomass, a renewable energy source, is biological material from living, or recently living organisms, such as wood, waste, (hydrogen) gas, and alcohol fuels. Biomass is commonly plant matter grown to generate electricity or produce heat. In this sense, living biomass can also be included, as plants can also generate electricity while still alive. The most conventional way in which biomass is used however, still relies on direct incineration. Forest residues for example (such as dead trees, branches and tree stumps), yard clippings, wood chips and garbage are often used for this. However, biomass also includes plant or animal matter used for production of fibers or chemicals. Biomass may also include biodegradable wastes that can be burnt as fuel. It excludes such organic materials as fossil fuels, which have been transformed by geological processes into substances such as coal or petroleum.

What units are used in a pyramid of biomass?

individuals

What happens to biomass as you move up its pyramid?

The Biomass decreases as the energy is used up on the way to the "top".

Why is biomass is often calculated as dry mass rather than wet mass?

Dry masses are used to work out the pyramid of biomass because the weight and density of wet mass can fluctuate. Water can disappear from the mass, causing it to lose weight. Adding more water will make it heavier and denser.

Why does the biomass of organisms decrease along food chains?

Because The energy is used for things like respiration and excretion. 10% of the biomass is used up from excretion.

The pyramid of mass demonstrates that?

A biomass pyramid represents the weight of food that is available in each level of a foodchain. For example, a pyramid of numbers may look like this:1 fox4 rabbits15 lettucesHowever, some things are enormous, and are eaten by many smaller animals, leading to upside down pyramids.2000 beetles1 oak treeSo, a pyramid of biomass is used to show how big everything is, making this pyramid the right way up again.1kg beetles200kg oak tree!!!! Explain why an energy pyramid is used o represent the amount of energy at each trophic level?

Because a pyramid of energy distribution can be an example of numbers of organisms in a population, energy distribution, and a measure of biomass per level. The base of the pyramid or triangle is the largest, and usually represents plants and autotrophs. Because is is the largest, there are the most organisms, most energy, and most biomass. As you go higher up the pyramid or triangle, the shape gets smaller which represents the number of total organisms getting smaller, the amount of energy getting smaller and the amount of biomass getting smaller.

What organisms does phytonmining?

Plants are the organisms used for phytomining. If plants can absorbs the low concentrations of metals in soil, the metals can be concentrated in the biomass of the plants and then extracted from the plant material when harvested.
