Irony is a type of literary technique that describes something that is exactly contrary to what someone expects, and is usually funny as a result. Two examples are:
"It seemed kind of ironic that I posted a video on facebook about how boring facebook is."
"It was ironic that the king named his biggest dog Tiny."
The main one revolved around being crazy. You can't fly if you are crazy, but you must be crazy if you are flying when people are trying to kill you. The commander would not see anyone. If someone wanted to see him they would have to wait until he was notified so he could leave first. Usually by jumping out the window. There was always a catch. One wartime businessman had his people do an air strike on their own airfield in a deal with the enemy. It was cost effective.

Verbal irony is when a character says something directly contradictory. There are many examples in Fahrenheit 451.
Sure! Here's an example: "The fire station burned down." This statement is ironic because fire stations are supposed to prevent fires, not be destroyed by them.
Verbal irony: "Wow, what a beautiful day," said on a rainy and stormy day. Situational irony: A fire station catching on fire or a lifeguard drowning are examples of situational irony where the opposite of what is expected to happen occurs.
Cosmic irony is irony envolving fate. Examples: The Titanic, said to be 100% unsinkable, sunk in 1912. At a ceremony marking the end of relief efforts of cleaning the Exxon Valdex oil spill, two seals were finally returned to inhabit the wild. Minutes later, they were eaten by a killer whale.
Two examples of situational irony in Act 1 of "The Crucible" are when Reverend Parris, who should be a figure of moral authority, is shown to be more concerned about his reputation than the well-being of his daughter, and when Abigail, who accuses others of witchcraft, is revealed to have been involved in supernatural activities herself.
An ambulance driver speeding receives a speeding ticket. A parent tells their messy child, "Wow, your room is so clean!" A teacher fails a spelling test. A person waiting in a long line comments, "This is moving at lightning speed."
