Aerosmith's bass player is Tom Hamilton. Hamilton started playing guitar when he was 12, and formed a band with lead guitarist Joe Perry before joining up with the other members of Aerosmith in 1970.

The band's name was originally thought of by Joey Kramer, who used to write Aerosmith all over his notebooks in high school. The others in the band thought he meant Arrowsmith, Sinclair Lewis's novel they had to read in high school, when he really meant A-E-R-O smith not ARROW smith.
There was no book written by him.
It doesn't actually mean anything. Joey Kramer listened to the album Ariel Ballet by Harry Nillson, and got had it pop into his head as a random word. He said he used to doodle it on his notebooks and such.
The name Arrowsmith was suggested by the bands drummer Joey Kramer but the band decided to change the spelling to Aerosmith.
