Aeneas was a Trojan inside the city at the time of the 10-year-long Trojan war. He had married Creusa, son of King Priam, making him a prince of Troy. At the climax of the battle, he was asked by the gods of Troy to take them and some of the Trojan population to a new land where he could found them a new city. Therefore he did not fight in the final battle, but yes, as a Trojan of this time period, he was in the Trojan war.
