Geographically speaking, yes. The actual geographic landmass that is Long Island consists of Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties. Brooklyn and Queens, though, are also boroughs in New York City, which leads many people to think of "Long Island" as being just Nassau and Suffolk. If you say you're going to "Long Island", people generally assume you mean Nassau or Suffolk because Brooklyn and Queens are part of "the city". It's a little confusing if you're not from the area. Hope this helps.

Are Queens and Brooklyn on Long Island?

Yes, the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens are both on Long Island. Brooklyn and Queens (which are also Kings County and Queens County, respectively) occupy the western end of Long Island. Kings County (aka the borough of Brooklyn) is the westernmost county on Long Island, and Queens County (aka the borough of Queens) is the second-westernmost. Queens lies on top of and somewhat east of Brooklyn, as if it just tried to sit down on Brooklyn too hard, and is now slipping off the right side of it. The remaining, eastern portion of Long Island is occupied by Nassau and Suffolk Counties, which are part of New York State, but not part of New York City as Brooklyn and Queens are. Suffolk County is the easternmost county on Long Island, and at 912 square miles, it is also the largest, taking up 65% of Long Island's total land area (which is 1401 square miles).

What island in New York is Brooklyn on?

Brooklyn is on Long Island. So is Queens. Brooklyn, Queens, and the rest of Long Island (which is made up of two counties, Nassau and Suffolk) all make up one big island that is actually larger than the state of Rhode Island!

Where do queens New York and long island New York meet?

Queens is a borough in the city of New York. Long Island is the name of the island that Queens to the North and Brooklyn to the South are on. Queens and Brooklyn are on the Western end of Long Island. Nassau and Suffolk are other counties on Long Island. For some people, Queens and Brooklyn are not apart of Long Island, (they consider New York City to be separate from Long Island), but, they are on the western part of the island.

Do Brooklyn and Queens connect?

Yes. Brooklyn and Queens are part of Long Island, at the western edge of it. Queens is directly above Brooklyn. If you continue north in Brooklyn, you'll end up in Queens, and if you continue heading east from Queens/Brooklyn, you will end up on the rest of Long Island (Nassau & Suffolk Counties).

Areas in Queens New York?

Queens is one of the five boroughs of New York City (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island). Along with Brooklyn, Queens is located on the western end of Long Island. Brooklyn is directly to the south of Queens. Long Island is the largest island in the continental United States, and is located just east of the bottom of New York State.

Is Brooklyn an island?

Yes, it is located on the mainland of New York State. It is the only New York City borough that is not an island, or part of an island. Manhattan and Staten Island are each islands, and Brooklyn and Queens are part of Long Island.

How far is Brooklyn from Queens?

Brooklyn and Queens are right next to each other. They both occupy the western end of Long Island. The northern border of Brooklyn is the southern border of Queens.

Which New York City boroughs are on Long Island?

Long Island is not a borough. Nor is it a county, city, or town. The name "Long Island" is a geographical name, not a political or official one. Long Island, which is part of New York State, is the largest island in the continental United States. The island is divided into four counties: Kings County, Queens County, Nassau County and Suffolk County. Two of these counties -- Kings and Queens -- are also boroughs of New York City. The five boroughs of New York City are Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island. Each borough is also a county in state government: Manhattan is New York County, Brooklyn is Kings County, Staten Island is Richmond County, and the other two have the same names (Queens is Queens County and The Bronx is Bronx County). The boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens (Kings County and Queens County) are located on the western end of Long Island. The remainder of Long Island consists of the two other counties (Nassau County and Suffolk County) which are part of New York State, but NOT part of New York City.

Is Brooklyn New York an island?

Brooklyn along with Queens is attached physically to Long Island thus making it part of a large island.

Is Nassau county part of NYC?

No. The five boroughs of New York City are Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island. Each borough is also a county: Manhattan is New York County, Brooklyn is Kings County, Queens is Queens County, The Bronx is Bronx County and Staten Island is Richmond County. Brooklyn and Queens -- Kings and Queens Counties -- are on Long Island, along with Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Nassau County and Suffolk County are part of New York State, but not part of New York City. Long Island is not only New York State's largest island, but the continental United States's largest island.

What are the two islands on which New York City is situated?

The five boroughs of New York City (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island) are situated on three islands: Manhattan Island, Staten Island, and Long Island. The boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens are on Long Island. The rest of Long Island is a part of New York State, but not a part of New York City. The Bronx is the only New York City borough that is not on an island.

What is the bridge that connects Staten island to Manhattan?

The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge (or just the Verrazano Bridge) connects Staten Island to Brooklyn. Brooklyn and Queens are on Long Island. If you continue heading north in Brooklyn, you will end up in Queens, and if you continue heading east from Brooklyn/Queens, you will end up on the rest of Long Island.Brooklyn and Queens are part of New York City, while the rest of Long Island is not. For that reason, many people think that Brooklyn and Queens are not part of Long Island. I have lived in New York City all my life, and I never knew that Brooklyn and Queens were considered part of Long Island until last week.In truth, "Long Island" is just a geographical name for the WHOLE island, including Brooklyn and Queens. Nassau County and Suffolk County are the proper (political) names for the part of Long Island that is outside the New York City limits.See the Related Link below for a New York City subway map. The map shows you all of the five boroughs, except Staten Island. You can see Staten Island at the bottom left corner of the map, but the entire island is not shown, since the subway doesn't go there. The eastern part of Long Island is also not on the map, but Brooklyn and Queens are, and they are clearly labeled.
