This was to teach the lesson that God does not care about a person's position in this world he is only interested in those that follow his word and it doesn't take money or anything else to do that. They either found a stable or some say a cave that was used as a stable for animals. There was nothing in this stable except some hay and a manger. A manger is a feeding trough for animals. So Jesus was laid in the manger (sort of like a crib.) Mary and Joseph probably slept on the floor.

∙ 15y agohmm... if in 'delivered' you mean born then yes. he was delivered in a manger because when Virgin Mary came to Bethlehem to give birth to the Lord's son, Jesus, there was no place to stay. every house was filled. People were even sleeping on the floor. So Mary went to an animal manger, and there she gave birth to Jesus Christ.</

∙ 14y agoMatthew's Gospel suggests that Bethlehem was the home town of Joseph and Mary, so they had no reason to travel. Jesus was found in a house. There is no mention in this Gospel of a manger.
