In 1971 the Uniform Monday Holiday Act went into effect moving Memorial Day, and several other holidays, from their traditional dates to Mondays to enable government workers to have three-day weekends during the year. Since 1971 Memorial Day has been on the last Monday of May so the date of the month changes every year. The last time that May 30th was on a Monday was in the year 2011 and the next time that May 30th will be on a Monday will be in the year 2016.
