Shakespeare was both an actor and a playwright. While he wrote many of his plays, he also acted in many of them as well as a few when he was apart of The Lord Chamberlain's Men later renamed The King's Men in honour of King James I.

We do not have a lot of information about Shakespeare's acting career. We know he played in The Lord Chamberlain's Men's production of Jonson's Every Man in His Humour, although we do not know what role he took. Rumour says that he took small but kingly roles such as the Ghost in Hamlet. It would be understandable that he took smaller roles since he needed time to write.

Although he was not a star actor, Shakespeare must have been at least competent, as he continued acting for many years, and was mentioned as an actor without negative comment.
