He certainly did. Most reports of him seem to indicate that he was a very nice fellow. Some of his associates in the theatre became good friends, particularly Hemminges and Condell, who not onoly brought out the first "complete works" but were also named in Shakespeare's will.

Well, he certainly met people in the theatrical world of London of his day. Ben Jonson knew him, if you think he was famous. But by far the most famous person he ever knew, although he never met him, was himself

Please remember that we have no records of who did or did not attend the grammar school in Stratford, so we cannot be sure exactly who went there. But Shakespeare did maintain friendships with men who were boys in Stratford at the same time he was, like his neighbour Hamnet Sadler or Richard Field, who became a printer and published Venus and Adonis. Both of them may have been classmates with Shakespeare.

Yes, certainly. Ben Jonson, a prickly sort of person most of the time, spoke very fondly of him. He worked very closely with other playwrights on a number of plays, John Fletcher in particular. Shakespeare seems to have been an easy man to get along with, and the community of playwrights was usually quite tightly knit.

Golly, he must have had thousands of them. He must have known everyone who was remotely connected with the theatre world of the time.

Did William Shakespeare know any poets?

Shakespeare was certainly acquainted with Ben Johnson with whom he went drinking before his death, and who wrote Shakespeare's eulogy. He collaborated with other poets and playwrights throughout his career as well.

Why were Christopher marlowe and Shakespeare enemies?

William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe were not enemies. Although they were the same age, Marlowe was a bit of a child prodigy and had written all of his plays before his untimely death in 1593 at the age of only twenty-nine. At that time, Shakespeare had only started writing plays and had only produced his earliest attempts. This was before the formation of The Lord Chamberlain's Men, and Shakespeare does not appear to have been clearly attached to any company. At that time it was the custom for newer playwrights to get help from other playwrights. Playwrights co-operated and collaborated and only very rarely got mad at each other. Shakespeare may well have got help from Marlowe, as well as other playwrights like George Peele. Certainly Shakespeare held Marlowe in highest esteem; he even quotes Marlowe as a homage in As You Like It.

One of Shakespeare's bitter enemies was?

Shakespeare did not have any bitter enemies, least of all his fellow playwrights such as Christopher Marlowe or Ben Jonson. Jonson, we know, was a friend and admirer of Shakespeare. Because Marlowe died so early in his career and before Shakespeare really got going, Marlowe didn't have much to say about Shakespeare, but Shakespeare admired Marlowe and included homages to him in his own plays. Playwrights of that time often worked together on plays, and we know that Shakespeare collaborated with John Fletcher late in his career, and many believe he also collaborated with George Poole on some of his early plays. The closest we hear from any of his contemporaries about anyone disliking Shakespeare in any way was Greene in his 1592 pamphlet Groatsworth of Wit, who talked about Shakespeare in rather unflattering terms (calling him an "upstart crow" for example) because Shakespeare did not have a university education like most of the playwrights of that time.

What actors community was shakespeare in?

Shakespeare was a member of the London theatrical community, a fairly large and active group that included actors, impresarios, and playwrights of all kinds. It included a number of playing companies (the exact number at any time fluctuated, but there were usually five or more), the owners of a dozen different theatres and a very large number of playwrights.

Was Shakespeare affected by censorship?

Yes, all playwrights had to watch out for the censor and in fact they always have to. In Shakespeare's day, you had to be very careful of two things: politics and religion. If you implied that the government ought to be overthrown, or that any religion other than the official one was the right one, you could find yourself in jail. Shakespeare was actually pretty good at avoiding the censors, but he did have to do it.

Did William Shakespeare have any friends when he was younger?

Yes, as far as we can tell. He seems to have been friends with Richard Field, who was from Stratford and was about Shakespeare's age. Field published Shakespeare's poem Venus and Adonis. Both Anne and Will Shakespeare were friends with their neighbours Judith and Hamnet Sadler--they named their twins after them and Hamnet was one of the witnesses to Shakespeare's will.

Are there any resemblances between the writings of Shakespeare and Marlowe?

Yes, indeed. They were both dramatists writing at about the same time. Marlowe wrote a lot fewer plays and his plays are primarily tragedies but he used the same blank verse Shakespeare did. The styles are similar, as much as both of them have a style similar to the many other playwrights writing at the time.

Why do you think shakespeare is still important to play and films today?

The IMdb lists 783 movies and TV productions based in some way on Shakespeare's writing, 12 in 2009. There is a Shakespeare play playing somewhere in the world at any given time. Numerous acting companies devote themselves exclusively to the works of Shakespeare. Shakespeare continues to be more significant than any other single playwright in the world because he is more frequently acted, not only in the original but also in translations and adaptations. Why? Because he is genuinely better than other playwrights. Actors find his plays challenging; audiences find them moving and funny.

Whose plays did Shakespeare watch?

We have no documentary evidence of this but we can imagine that he would try to see any plays that were going. Theatre was intensely competitive and playwrights did try to keep up with what the others were doing.
