What you probably have is a somewhat common novelty piece made by cutting apart a genuine cent and so-called Mercury dime, and joining one side from each. I don't know why this was done but I've heard of several instances.
Also, the "W" is not a mint mark. If you look closely you'll see it is mingled with an A for Adolphe Weinmann, the coin's designer.

These dollars were made of copper and nickel, rather than silver, in most cases. If the "S" mark is there, check the sides of the coin--is it grey and copper, or darkish and lighter grey? If so, then it is likely 40% silver, and worth about $10 as of today.
