There may be copies in existence; there is a story that a copy was made for the Queen of Sheba's son and that the copy was swapped with the original and taken back to, what is now, Ethiopia where it remains, according to legend, to this day in Axum. No-one is allowed to see the box, so it's impossible to to say if it is a copy or is actually even there. The Orthodox church in Ethiopia does have a tradition of "ark-like" boxes in its churches which are seen. One was recently shown in Around the World in Eighty Treasures by Dan Cruickshank. It was, to my eyes, a bit of a disappointment - not like the Indiana Jones version.
