Exposing a child to social situations at an early age is important, but playing with relatives should help the child when time for school actually arrives. When in primary school the children should be encouraged to participate in group activities, not just to complete assignments and tasks individually. Group activities promote trust, and also promote teamwork, essential to social skills development. The children should also be encouraged to get to know each other, and playing games to where the children ask the others questions, and the other children answer questions about themselves, this encourages communication as well as the ability to learn from others and share with one another.
Children who "misbehave" or act out in school are generally feeling out of place or isolated and the situation needs to be addressed as such behavior is actually their way of seeking help. Those children do not need to be singled out and humilated in front of their peers, as this could result in the children riddculing that child and further isolating him/her. If a teacher finds this situation in their classroom, that child needs to be included in the teamwork exercises, especially. As that child may be needing extra assistance in making friends, which means the teacher needs to assist the child in
expanding their social skills in the classroom, as well as speaking with the child's parents about the situation and what they can do to help the child grow. Advise parents that taking a child to the park, storytime at the Library, and any activity that promotes the child's social and educational skills.
