The battle tanks have caterpillar tracks instead of tires because the tires cannot manage the weight of the tanks. When area increases pressure decreases .So when caterpillar tracks are used the pressure decreases and the battle tanks can move easily.
Depending on the model of halftrack, either steel caterpillar tracks or rubber band tracks can be used. Some models offered compatibility with either type.
The Germans had taken so many tanks and other armored vehicles from other zones of battle, which were ultimately lost in the Battle of the Bulge. There was no hope of ever replacing these vehicles and manpower that was lost. They could have been used in a fighting retreat that would have cost many more Allied lives and additional months of battle.
Battle tanks use tracks to spread their weight on soft ground. Tanks weigh 40+ tons; If they used wheels they would often get stuck. It's the same reason earth moving equipment (bulldozers) use tracks.
the Battle of The Bulge was one of many key reasons that Germany had been slowly failing to hold on to what they had on the Western front because the Soviets were pushing into Germany from the East and the American and British were pushing into Germany from the West and the Battle of the Bulge was the final blow towards Germany's Western front because they wasted the remaining resources on the attack
