The Andes Mountains in western South America are a result of an oceanic-continental convergence of lithospheric plates. It would occur anywhere that an oceanic plate and a continental plate are moving toward each other.
Ocean convergence with continental plates result in subduction zone. Oceanic with oceanic plates convergence forms volcanic mountain.
They are about the same age, actually. The Appalachians were formed as a result of the continental collisions that formed Pangaea.
