They won because that's what they played for all season long as well as all the other teams in the NFL. Each season that begins, all 32 teams are hungry to first make it to the postseason and then to the Super Bowl. Once they get to the Super Bowl they play it to win.

Yes, it happened once before. In 1977 The denver Broncos and the Dallas Cowboys met in the last week of the season. They met a few weeks later in Super Bowl XII. Dallas won both games.
The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-7 in Super Bowl IV, played on January 11, 1970. (This was the last Super Bowl played between teams of the AFL and NFL, as the leagues merged for the 1970 NFL season.)
The two teams have never played each other in a Super Bowl.
It was only two teams and one of them was the Dallas Cowboys and I don't know the other one.
The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals.

Not sure if you mean what teams were in the first Super Bowl (played in 1967) or Superbowl II, the championship game for the 1967 season. So I will give you both. The Green Bay Packers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10 in Superbowl I. The game was played January 15, 1967. For the 1967 season (Super Bowl II), the Green Bay Packers defeated the Oakland Raiders 33 - 14.
