What is the 'tuck rule'?

User Avatar
The tuck rule applies when a quarterback starts a throwing motion and then decides not to throw and attempts to 'tuck' the ball back into his body to keep possession. Should the quarterback lose control of the ball while in the tucking motion and the ball hits the ground, the play is considered an incomplete pass as opposed to a fumble. The tuck rule is defined in Rule 3, Section 21, Article 2, Note 2 of the NFL Official Rules and is defined below: "When a player is holding the ball to pass it forward, any intentional forward movement of his hand starts a forward pass, even if the player loses possession of the ball as he is attempting to tuck it back toward his body. Also, if the player has tucked the ball into his body and then loses possession, it is a fumble."

What football teams are rivals with the New England Patriots?

User Avatar
Their main rivals are in their division - the NY Jets, the Miami Dolphins, and the Buffalo Bills. Other rivals include the Indianapolis Colts (due to the quarterback rivalry between Tom Brady and Peyton Manning), and the NY Giants (who beat them on a last-minute play in the 2008 Super Bowl and again in the 2012 Super Bowl). With the 2011 ascension of Tim Tebow followed by his release and Peyton Manning's trade to the Denver Broncos, a long-time rivalry was intensified. The ascension of Andrew Luck as Colts quarterback has kept the Colts a playoff contender, though 2013 will mark the first time since 2002 the Patriots do not play the Colts in the regular season. The Baltimore Ravens' recent playoff successes have created a true rivalry there as well.

Why do the Patriots wear the number 91 on the back of their helmets?

User Avatar
The 2007 Patriots are wearing circular stickers on the backs of their helmets with the number 91 on them, in honor of their teammate, the late Marquise Hill. Hill was a defensive end with the Patriots. He died in a jet skiing accident in May of 2007. Hill, who is from New Orleans, had devoted himself to helping victims of Hurricane Katrina. He was 24 when he died. He was the first Patriots player to die while on the active roster.
