Throughout all of biblical history Children have been prayed for and granted to parents who desired them. The story of Abraham an Issac, Hannah and Samuel and many other instances are places where parents have prayed earnestly and God has given to them a Child. however in other places in scripture children are listed as blessings take for example Deuteronomy 7:
; 7:12 : If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then the Lord your God will keep his covenant of love with you, as he swore to your forefathers. ; 7:14 : You will be blessed more than any other people; none of your men or women will be childless, nor any of your livestock without young. Here is a clear case where children are examples of a blessign from God, the same holds true in Job 5
; 5:25 : You will know that your children will be many, and your descendants like the grass of the earth. and in the Psalms:
; 128:2 : You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. ; 128:3 : Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table. ; 128:4 : Thus is the man blessed who fears the Lord. ; 128:6 : and may you live to see your children's children. Isaiah also speaks about childen being a blessing poured out from God:
; 44:3 : For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. ; 44:4 : They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams. ; 44:5 : One will say, 'I belong to the Lord'; another will call himself by the name of Jacob; still another will write on his hand, 'The Lord's,' and will take the name Israel. While all of these things are proof that The Bible says that Childeren are blessings from God, none of them say it in so many words unfortunately. However all do say that they are blessings.
One scripture that comes to mind is Psalm 127:3-5: ". . .Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him....Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them."(NIV)
And Proverbs 10:1, Proverbs 15:20 and Proverbs 23:24+25 tell how a 'wise son' makes the heart rejoice.
Many parents consider their children a blessing. If the child was from God depends on the parent.
.
Catholic Answer:Yes, children are a blessings from God. All creatures, including children are directly created by God. But, in the case of a child, the parents, in a very unique way, participate in the act of creation. God hasn't made any humans, that we know of, outside of the co-operation of parents, since Adam and Eve. The entire Sacrament of Matrimony is established towards this end and it is a great blessing.Jewish answer:
Yes, every child is a vast blessing from God.
(Psalm 127:3-5) . . .Look! Sons are an inheritance from Jehovah; The fruitage of the belly is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a mighty man, So are the sons of youth. Happy is the able-bodied man that has filled his quiver with them. They will not be ashamed, For they will speak with enemies in the gate.

The Work of God's Children Illustrated Bible was created in 2010.
A sacrament is a religious ceremony or ritual. The Bible is not a sacrament.
The Bible traces the blessings of God to Abraham through "Isaac"... not "Ishmael." The Ishmaelites were slighted, as it were, being the actual "firstborn" of Abraham... yet, "cast out" as they were. It's their contention, therefore, that God's blessings belong to the descendants of Ishmael... not Isaac. This is the cause of the festering animosity of Arabs toward Israel, today. The Bible, therefore, isn't beneficial to their connection to the blessings of God. Its bias is definitely in Israel's favor... so the latter writings of the Q'ran became the word of God to the descendants of Ishmael, and the Bible became the "erroneous writings" of the Jews, which they feel the Q'ran has corrected in their eyes.
