I have found that one of todays best authorities on this is Scott Hahn. He is a Theology major and one of today's greatest Apologetics.

There is no one answer to your question, but by researching Scotts books and audio's, I think most of your answers can be found.

Different Answer:

I stand to be corrected as i am no expert in any shape or form, but i do love the Lord.

Anyway, i think in Genesis, people were building the tower of Babel, these people all spoke the same language, did the same things etc, and basically God tore the tower down and scattered the people throughout the earth. Just seems that God didn't want all people to be the same, and denominations are just a sub-division of difference. I men regardless of what you are taught, if you give your life to Jesus you are part of the church, which is not just a building, but the group of people that believe and follow in Jesus. And to be honest, does it matter about the denominations, its not about those, its about God. if we follow Him i really don't think it matters.

Another answer:

It's the acceptance by some and/or rejection by others of different Bible verses that have created the divided denominations.

Jesus, in His prayer to His Father in heaven, which is recorded for our edification, said: "...Thy Word [The Bible] IS TRUTH..." (John 17:17).

The entire Bible is the Truth... not just the pet verses with which a given denomination agrees - that is, that particular verse or verses that gave birth to the denomination's beliefs and doctrines. Therefore, because the denominations don't agree with each other on "the whole Truth" ... then, they are all only "half right" and "divided" - which makes them wrong.

Because Christ isn't divided.

"...Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand..." (Matt.12:25).

Jesus commands us to "continue in His Word" [the Bible]. All of it. He says if we do, we will be His. That if we do, we will know the Truth... and that that knowledge will "liberate" us. (John 8:31-32)

Each denomination, built upon the passages with which they agree, are only teaching their flocks "part of the Truth." The results of this across the board is "deception." The lack of the knowledge, wisdom and understanding of God's Word. A modern professing Christian world that is "deceived."

The existence of the deceived religious denominations of men [not of God] reflects Jesus' very first warning sign to us, to beware of "false Christianity":

"...what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world [age]? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in My name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many." (Matt.24:4-5)
