It's Modern English by definition. Middle English was essentially gone by 1485. Many people make the HORRIBLE mistake of claiming that Shakespeare wrote in Old English. Old English is more German than English, and you wouldn't be able to understand it without taking a foreign language class.
Perhaps I don't understand your question. His plays are written in the form of plays. Other people did not adapt them for the stage--they were written exclusively for the stage from the start.
I believe you are referring to the Iambic Pentameter Ideally lines had Five words, for example- All"s Well That ends well! Penta meaning Five as in Pentax and Pentagon.
