History is the obvious one, but also you would need at least a C in English and probably maths. You would need at least 5 A*-C GCSE passes so that you could go on to study history for A Level and then at university

For GCSE it is not that important what you take. The best thing to do is to look at university websites and find out what A-Levels they require. Then choose GCSEs that are relevant to (and allow you to take) the required A-levels.
