In September of 2020, several videos went viral on social media that featured a “UFO” hovering over New Jersey. It has been confirmed that this sighting was actually of a Goodyear blimp that was capturing aerial footage for an NFL game at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford.

The question is unclear. If it refers to the Hindenburg, she was not a blimp. She was a zeppelin. As she was landing at Lakehurst NJ, the death toll was lighter than it might have been, and more than half the passengers and crew survived. The US Navy zeps Akron, Macon, and Shenandoah crashed in bad weather because of structural defect, with loss of life. The British diesel-powered zep R.101 crashed with deaths, but her sister the gasoline-powered R.100 survived. The dirigible Italia crashed while exploring the North Pole, and there were deaths. Watch the movie "The Red Tent" for a very accurate account of this incident. Many people have been killed in airship accidents over the years, but the exact number may not have been quantified. The strangest was on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries. In WW2 a US Navy blimp took off fom San Diego CA on anti-sub patrol with two men aboard instead of the usual three-man crew. The blimp later returned to Cali and crashed with no one aboard. One of the USN zeps pulled three of its mooring crew into the sky in the 1930's. Two of them fell to their deaths, but the third sailor held on to the mooring line and survived. This grisly incident was caught on film, and may be available on the Web for any ghouls who want to see it.
The most famous of all blimps is most likely the Goodyear Blimp. They can be seen over sporting events such as baseball and football games. If one is lucky, they can win a ride and fly in one.
Over 500
There was no blimp over Super Bowl XLI. The Federal Aviation Administration allowed only approved military, law enforcement, and medical air travel within a ten mile radius of Dolphins Stadium during the game. Considering how hard it rained during the game, if a blimp had been allowed it may not have been able to stay aloft.
The "doping" of the outer layer of the blimp was EXTREMELEY flammable. The Blimps back then were NOT grounded...Therefore, when they flew it over, after the storm, the static electricity sparked scortching the whole outer layer before the blimp actually landed...That's why the frame didnt catch on fire until the blimp hit the ground....
5 People did. 3 crashed, 1 crashed and one run over. ALL IN THE SAME DAY!!
