After Venus, Mars is the next nearest planet to Earth. When everything is right, the closest Mars can get to the earth is about 48.5 million miles.
Research by Arsalan (AZEE)
If they were all lined up in a line on the same side of the sun the distances form the sun would be:
Mercury 0.387 A.U.
Venus 0.723 A.U.
Earth 1.000 A.U.
Mars 1.524 A.U.
Jupiter 5.203 A.U.
Saturn 9.523 A.U.
Uranus 19.208 A.U.
Neptune 30.087 A.U.
This shows that Venus would be 0.277 AU. form Earth while Mars would be 0.524 AU. which makes Venus the closest planet to Earth.
HOWEVER - all the planets move round the Sun at different speeds and this means that Earth and Mars could be on the same side of the Sun while Venus was on the other side.
In this configuration Venus would be 1.723 AU from Earth while Mars was 0.524 AU. and Mars would then be closest.
Using the distances provided above why don't you try and work out configurations for Mercury and Jupiter - could they ever be the closest planet?
The planet Venus occupies the orbit closest to Earth's.
Venus is nearer to the Earth than any other planet.

No. Earth is a planet. The planet Mercury is the nearest planet to the Sun. The nearest star to the Sun is called Proxima Centauri.
No, the Earth is not the nearest planet to the Sun. The nearest planet to the Sun is Mercury.

It takes 77,000 years and longer than a life time to get to our nearest planet or (solar system).
The closest planet to the Sun is Mercury. This is followed by Venus, then Earth.
Earth is the nearest planet from Mars.
No. Earth is a planet. The planet Mercury is the nearest planet to the Sun. The nearest star to the Sun is called Proxima Centauri.
No, the Earth is not the nearest planet to the Sun. The nearest planet to the Sun is Mercury.
The planet nearest to the Earth is Venus. That is, of course, when it's correctly placed in its orbit relative to the Earth.

The third planet.
Mercury (planet) is the nearest planet to the Sun.Planet Mercury is in orbit nearest the Sun.
The nearest planet (Venus) is about 25,760,000 miles (about 41,456,700 kilometers) away from Earth.
