electronic spreadsheet
The specialised software for this is a 'spreadsheet', probably the most common such software these days is Microsoft Excel. Where most of the data is numbers, then it is best to use a spreadsheet. A database is also capable of doing these calculations, and if calculations are based on text, like you were counting how many different department names there are in a company, a database is better. Most word-processing software also allows a table of rows and columns to be defined in a document and the same sort of calculations can then be carried out within the table, though this would be rarely used for anything more than very simple calculations, and most word processor users would not even be aware that you can do calculations in a word processing table.
Computer Software
Software allows hardware to perform some specific function.
A spreadsheet, such as Microsoft Excel, Lotus 123, Quattro Express, Open Office Calc etc.
Because it allows us to perform calculations that would be too difficult (or too slow).
The program is a Spreadsheet. eg Microsoft Excel
The operating system allows you to use the computer, but you need specific programs to perform specific tasks. There is no single piece of software that allows you to perform every specific task.
Spreadsheets are divided into columns and rows. Columns are typically labeled with letters (A, B, C, etc.), while rows are labeled with numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.). This grid structure allows users to organize and manipulate data effectively, making it easy to perform calculations and analyze information across different data sets. Each cell within the grid is identified by its column and row coordinates, such as A1 or B2.
A spreadsheet is a tool that displays data in one continuous page of columns and rows. It allows users to organize, analyze, and manipulate data efficiently. Commonly used software for this purpose includes Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets. Each cell in the grid can hold data, formulas, or functions, facilitating various calculations and data management tasks.
The word for software that allows users of a computer to perform tasks is "application software." This type of software includes programs designed for specific functions, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and web browsing. Examples include Microsoft Word, Excel, and web browsers like Chrome and Firefox.
Software is the part of a computer that allows humans to interact with it. Software drives all the physical hardware to perform what it is commanded.
The software licence... allows you to use the software for the purpose it was designed to be used. It also allows you to make a single back-up copy in case you lose the original. It does NOT allow you to make multiple copies - or distribute said copies whether for free or paid.
EyeTV software is capable of converting a television feed to your computer. The claim to fame of this software is its "Progressive Scan" technology, which allows for high resolution pictures.
