Of course a tragedy would not be tragic if we could not feel sorry for the main character. An inhuman callous, selfish, cowardly monster is not going to be regretted. In Act V, Macbeth sees his fate closing in on him. The prophecies which he thought protected him, have failed him one by one. From the moment he killed Duncan he has murdered people in the hope of defeating his growing fears ("Our fears in Banquo stick deep.") but in the end he is faced with an opponent he knows he must lose to. His ultimate decision to fight him anyway, saying "Lay on Macduff!" is a resurgence of his courage which is one of his most admirable qualities, abetted by his self-respect ("I will not yield to kiss the ground before young Malcolm's feet.") makes us sorry for him. So does his brief show of sympathy to Macduff ("Get thee back, my soul is too charged with blood of thine already.")
He finally displays his passionate love for homosexuals
At the end of act V Macbeth shows extreme bravery even in the face of death. Macbeth's biggest flaw comes to the forefront in act V as a character that is too trusting.
