A dog in good health can be bred up until about age seven or eight. However, if she has not had a litter in the past, you may want to use five years of age as the limit for her first breeding.

For small breeds (chi/pom): third heat. This is usually around 18months.

For medium breeds: 3rd heat. (usually at 19-20months)

Large breeds: 3rd heat (usually 21months)

Giant breeds: 3rd or 4th heat, (22-28months)

Do NOT breed your dog until at least 18months.

Let her mature from puppy hood.

All dogs are puppies until at least 15months, even the little breeds.

No Earlier than 2 years old. You need your dog to be an adult before you breed from it. Breeding from Dogs when they are not fully grown is cruel. People purchasing puppies should ask the owner how old the female is before buying a puppy.

The best ages for breeding are between 3 and 5 years of age. It may be safe to breed from a six year old female, but no older.

A dog can have their puppies as early a year. But that is not very healthy for them it's like teenage pregnancy. we breed our dog at four as our vet suggested
