Dolly Parton never went to "college". She left for Nashville right after graduating High School. She eventually did get a doctorate of humane and musical letters from the University of Tennessee. She was awarded the honorary degree largely because of her work with the Imagination Library.

Dolly has been quoted saying, "wasn't meant to be". She explained that โsince I had no kids and my husband was pretty independent,โ she was allowed to have the โfreedomโ to achieve her dreams as a country star. โSo I think a big part of my whole success is the fact that I was free to work.โ Hereโs a look at a few reasons Parton never had kids: She believes having children would have changed the trajectory of her career. Parton suffered from endometriosis. She considers herself a mother to everyone. She feels called to help other children. She loves her relationship exactly how it is. Despite being married since 1966, Dolly Parton and her husband Carl Dean do not have children, for various reasons. She has opened up on this a few times in interviews, and it seems there have been health and professional issues preventing the couple from having their own kids.
This was originally a country hit for Dolly Parton, who wrote in back in 1973; it was about her former singing partner and mentor, country star Porter Wagoner. At the time, Dolly was about to go out on her own, and the break-up between her and Porter had not been amicable. Years later, Whitney Houston recorded it; it was in Houston's 1992 movie, The Bodyguard, and it became a big hit all over again.

Dolly Parton is still married. She has been married since May 30, 1966, to Carl Thomas Dean, a former asphalt paving businessman, now retired. They married at Ringgold, GA, and are still very much together. Whilst Dolly is away, Carl looks after their manor farm estate, Tara, in Brentwood, Tennessee, and develops properties. The couple like to go riding in their RV together and spend time in a secluded cabin on a river in the mountains.
