Georgia O'Keeffe first met Alfred Stieglitz when she was an art student at the Art Students League in New York City in January 1908. She along with other art students went to Alfred Stieglitz's art studio at "291" Fifth Avenue to view an exhibit that was showing Rodin's art. This was not a formal introduction to her future husband. In early February1916 she had written correspondence with Alfred Stieglitz about some drawings that her friend Anita Pollitizer had shown to Stieglitz. In April 1916, she went to his gallery to specifically talk to Stieglitz about her drawings and their relationship started at that time.
