Fijians speak a variety of dialects and a common language known as "Bauan-Fijian" this is spoken in Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Kandavu, Lau, Yasawas, Taveuni and many other 300+ islands in Fiji. Out of all the Fijian language, the Nadroga/Navosa dialect has been claimed to be the most confusing one.

Three languages are recognized:

  • English-the country's main language, used in everyday media, schools, work places and conversations.
  • Fijian-used at home, social gatherings, friends and is a second language.
  • Fiji-Hindi-used at home, gatherings, celebrations, with friends and is a second language. Fiji-Hindi is different from the Hindi spoken in India.

English is the official language of the Republic of the Fiji Islands. English can be seen everywhere in Fiji, daily newspaper, radio stations, television, news, businesses, restaurants, schools, and everywhere in the Fiji Islands. However, Fijian and Fiji-Hindi is the second language in the country. French and Urdu is never been considered as a major language in Fiji despite it is a subject in various high school around Fiji.
Yes they do - in addition to their own native Fijian language.
There is no Fiji native language. Because each province has its own dialect it is hard to choose which one for the people to use. Therefore Bauan-Fijian is a subtitute to this where every native fijian speak as a first or second language in homes and villagers. English is the language of the people and country.
The official languages of Fiji are English, Fijian, and a Fijian dialect of Hindi (spoken by the descendents of Indian settlers). Some other local Fijian languages (particularly Rotuma) are also spoken, along with Chinese in the immigrant community.
