∙ 7y agoI cannot name ALL the names, but a bunch I have read are: purple panther, painter, ghost cat, mountain lion, cougar, puma, deer tiger, screamer mountain screamer, catamount, purple feather, and more. There are different names for some of the same mountain lions, because a s the pioneers from all over expanded across the land, they each gave their own names, which are still used locally.
Puma and cougar are both words for a mountain lion. I've also heard that panther is one but I think that a panther is actually a black jungle cat.

∙ 11y agoCougar, puma, and panther (which is different if you're referring to the melanistic jaguars or leopards) are also called Mountain Lions or American Lions (though this is a misnomer as the American Lion is an extinct species of felid). The correct name is generally considered either puma or cougar and the scientific name for this species is Puma concolor.
