harmonics increase heating of motors ,Transformers and capacitors .Power system protecting relays may operate falsly, meters give inaccurate readings, interference with telephone lines may also occur.

Moreover resonance due to harmonics also causes problems

harmonics effect mainly in the ac systems,in dc there is no problem due to harmonics.Harmonic means other than fundamental in ac system.in those harmonics lower order harmonics are more dominant in nature compare to higher order.harmonics are can be minimised by following ways those are.................................

Is odd harmonics present in push pull amplifier?

Odd harmonics are theoretically the only harmonics that are produced by a push-pull amplifier, and even the level of odd harmonics should be very low.

Harmonics in three phase why not in single phase?

Harmonics are the result of the current waveform being distorted by a non-linear load, such as a computer power supply or a motor control drive (VFD). In a commercial setting (which is usually 3-phase), harmonics cause unwanted current to flow which does no useful work, yet must be accounted for when sizing conductors, transformers, etc. Harmonics are certainly not limited to 3-phase systems, however. Any non-linear load, even single-phase, causes harmonics. Your computer, television, and microwave oven probably create harmonics. In a residential setting though, there are not enough cumulative harmonic currents to worry about. Unless you have 50 computers at your house...

Determine second third and 12TH harmonic of a sine wave?

A sine wave has no harmonics. It only has a fundamental, so the value of the 2nd, 3rd, and 12th harmonics of a sine wave is zero.

What type of wave is square wave?

A square wave is the sum of all odd harmonics of the fundamental frequency.A sawtooth or ramp wave is the sum of all even harmonics of the fundamental frequency.

What will happen if two generators are running in parallel but having different winding pitch?

pitch windings are used to suppressed the harmonics. while operating two gen sets in parallel having different pitch windings will certainly cause problems in reducing the harmonics . for example a generator with pitch winding 2/3 suppressed the triple harmonics but may enhance the 5th and 7th harmonics similarly a generator with pitch winding 5/6 suppressed the 5th and 7th harmonics but may enhances the triple ones . so the act would counter act each other.

That are harmonics: fundamental + overtones. Calculations of harmonics from fundamental frequency. Look down to the related links: "Harmonics Calculator".
