A repetitious sentence is one that repeats and repeats and goes on repeating until everyone wishes you'd stop being so repetitive. It often occurs when you use too many close adjectives or close adverbs as synonyms, or you lose your train of thought so you repeat trying to work out what you mean to say.

Examples:

  1. The city needed workers who were strong, workers who were tough, workers who loved to work.
  2. The girl was really pretty, beautiful, alluring, I mean, she was so extraordinary lookingthat guys were drooling over her.
  3. The very tall building had many floors so its height required a beacon atop it to warn aircraftlike airplanes and helicopters to stay away because it is so tall. - two issues of repetition
  4. The puny man was so small in height, smaller than most men his age, that he had to wear lifts in his shoes to increase his height.
  5. Eager to see Santa Claus, the little girl excitedly ran ahead of her grandmother who wasn't as eager to push through the crowds.
  6. Her educational presentation included educational materials from education experts and professors from the Department of Education.

When you use the same word or phrase over and over again, that is an example of excessive repetition. [That sentence also contains repetition, because "over and again" IS repetition!] So try to avoid using the same word or phrase over and over again. [This sentence also contains repetition.]
