days and nights are caused due to the rotation of earth on its own axis. it takes about 23 hours 56 minutes and 54 seconds for earth to complete rotation once. during rotation the part of earth which faces sun has day and the part away from sun has night.
at poles days and night are of 6 months long.......when sun rays are direct on tropic of cancer there is 6 months day at the north pole and while the northern hemisphere has long days and shorter night. similar is the case with Southern Hemisphere. on 21st march and 23rd September days and night are equal throughout the world as the sun rays are direct on equator. areas around equator have always equal days and equal nights..............that's all i know about it
