It is a medium sized spider that is dark brown to easily blend with its surroundings. Some have legs that are a reddish hue with a large, bulbous body that is a grayish brown. They are easily identified by their unique "trap door" webs, consisting of a burrow into soil lined with vegetation and a silk tube structure. They resemble tarantualas in their size, but they are not as hairy.

They make hinged traps with tripwires. When an insects walks over the trip wire (remember, the spider is hidden under a door),as it is connected to their feet, they feel it and pounce to catch it.
