Fontanels are a mesenchyme (loose connective tissue) filled space where bone formation is not yet complete, especially between the cranial bones of an infant's skull.
Fontanels are replaced and covered by the growth of bone over that connective tissue in time, into a suture (an immovable joint) that connect the different portions of the skull.
The fontanelles are spaces between the skull bones of the baby. As those bones grown they fill in the fontanelles.
Fontanels close to become sutures, but this does not happen until the baby ages. As people age, the ridges where skull sutures connect become less distinct.
fontanellesthe membrane filled areas situated in between the bones present in the vault of the neonatal skull are called fontanelles.there are six fontanelles present at the time of birth. the two frontal bones are separated by the metopic suture.six fontanelles are :anterior fontanelle.posterior fontanelle.a pair of anterolateral fontanelles.a pair of posteriolateral fontanelles.the fontanelles help moulding of the foetal head during child birth.
FONTANELLES
The fontanelles are "soft spots" in the newborn's skull. These bones do not fuse completely before birth, so that the head can mold to fit through the birth canal. They also allow the brain to grow inside the skull with out increasing the intercranial pressure.Hope this helps.
The Fontanelles Most importantly allow for the human skull to pass through the birth canal and are vital in allowing the brain to grow inside the skull without increasing the intercranial pressure.
It can be replaced with saline during a vitrectomy.
Fontanelles. These allow for the bony plates of the baby's skull to 'flex' during birth

Fontanelles are usually made of wood in most instances. They are used to protect the keys and mechanisms on wind instruments.
The fontanels allow the fetal skull to be compressed slightly during birth and also allow for brain growth during late fetal life.
They are called fontanelles.
The fontanelles.
The soft spots are called fontanelles. They occur at the fibrous sutures (joints) between the plates of the skull, and usually fuse with bone (ossify) within the first two years after birth. The spacing between the skull plates is necessary for proper expansion as the brain grows.
FONTANELLES
The soft spots on a baby's head are called fontanelles. There are two of them, the larger one close to the front of the head, and a smaller one that closes soon after birth further back on the head.
