∙ 11y agoWhen a laser printer prints, a laser writes an image to the drum (which is a photoreceptor, made of photoconductive materials which are discharged by light photons) with a laser. This process creates a static charge on the drum which attracts toner to the appropriate locations on the drum. The toner is then transferred to the paper which is then rolled through the fuser and heated.
In short, it is called a laser printer because it uses lasers in the printing process.
