Major minerals are the minerals that comprise a large fraction (several percent and usually > 10 %) of a rock as opposed to accessory minerals that commonly make up less than 1 % of a specific rock. There is a bit of freedom in defining the boundary between major and minor components of a rock as these terms are usually used in field descriptions in the outcrop or in thin sections and bound to be imprecise, anyway.
Common major minerals are olivine (especially in mantle rocks), quartz and feldspar in granites, calcite in marbles, halite in rock salt and gypsum in evaporites. Other rocks may be e.g. composed mainly of pyroxene (pyroxenites).

Quartz, feldspars, plagioclase, pyroxenes, amphiboles. Silica minerals are the most abundant on the Earth's surface.
