The Black Death still exists in parts/regions of the states. People are catching rodents when they see them, which they then kill. The person that caught the rodent will then be sent off to a physician to get disinfected with antibiotics. Antibiotics cures the Black Death disease.

The Black Plague had many supposed "cures", but two the most common were "a pocketful of posie" (Anyone know the rhyme?), which was a flower people would stuff in their pockets to prevent infection.

The other, less known attempt at a cure, was to not take baths. Many European people believed that dirt provided a shield from ailments.

Also, this led to the belief that Jews were to blame for the Black Plague, because Jews actually bathed, and therefore did not get sick nearly as often.

The flagellants were people who wanted to show their love of God by whipping themselves, hoping that their God would forgive their sins and that they would be spared. People carried flowers to ward off the smell of the dead and dying. The skies were filled with ashes as people burned the houses filled with the dead . Villages filled with the dead were burned down to contain and kill the disease but nothing worked. They also ran away to Another Country and left everyone behind. They went on a pilgrimage. They also punished themselves by joining the flagellants. They lived a separate life, only eating and drinking in moderation and seeing no one. They lived in a house sheltered from the wind and kept the window closed. They first thought that the Jews were the ones who caused the plague by poisoning the wells so, they killed many Jews.

In the Middle Ages, all that people could do to try to escape the Bubonic Plague was to flee those places where it was raging, and pray for deliverance. Neither method was particularly effective.

People had no idea about bacteria or viruses at this time. They thought that "bad air" caused diseases. The population was mostly poor and had no way to get away from this. The rich ran away from the cities until it seemed to die down.
