The major side effect is going through four to five days of doing nothing but sleeping. You will have no energy to do anything and you will not be able to fight the urge to sleep. During this period, you may also experience depression which is a common withdrawal symptom of getting off Adderall. These symptoms usually peak on day 4 or 5 and then begin to subside quickly over the next few days. However, from day 1 through 5 be ready to feel like hell.

**** I've been taking 30mg of Adderall XR for 6 years. I typically go off of it during my "down" time for about a week at a time or so. I do experience the tiredness but it usually only lasts a day. It can be counteracted by having a bit of caffeine (a can of Coca-Cola usually does it for me) until the 2nd day. More of what I have experienced is an increase in appetite and, strangely enough, constipation for a day or two. But again, only for a day or two. Getting regular exercise, eating right and a bit of caffeine should help those side effects.

***I've been taking 30mg of Adderall XR 7 days a week for 10+ years. I skip a day once every month or 2 so I can catch up on sleep. I've done the 4 to 5 days not being able to fight the urge to sleep. Day 5, I woke with a painful sharp headache. afterwards, i took 15mg (half the beads in the capsule) of Adderall. I feel Extraordinarily great and Focused. Drinking 2 glasses of water has nearly subsided the headache. I am not having any tweeked out effects as I have had taking the 30mg. I sorta wish I had waited another day or 2 now that I read this. But I decided I am going to ween myself off by cutting my dose in half instead of cold turkey.

I used to take Adderal for my ADHD, it helped alot with the fidgeting and focusing, but I did seem to be a little bit more irritable, this may have been because I was concentrated and little things got me irritated. The horrible side effect was that while the medicine was in my bloodstream, I would eat almost nothing. What I did eat was either forced down, or something that was very sugary and unhealthy, which added no benefit to my diet whether I ate it or not. At 8:00 or 9:00 P.M. I would be very hungry because the medicine had worn off. This caused major changes in my daily routine, later dinner, different free time, and It was not easy at all. It seemed worth it for a while, but eating is very important I realised as I became skinny and underweight. So if you get side effects similar to mine, I advise you tell your doctor or other persons in the position of prescribing ADHD medicine.

Hey~I am 20 & I have been taking 10mg, 20mg, & 40mg of Adderall & Adderall XR for 12 years(sometimes take 60mg). The other day a friend of mine said something about psychosis being one of the long term side effects. I am worried and now have started evaluating my days to see if I actpsychotic There are no symptom's yet but I am curious if they will develop? Also, I am curious if there are any heart problems or facial side effects later on in life there will be?! Because I have been taking Adderall for such a long period of time I am skinny (obsessed w/ my look), tend to have anxiety, bitchy, depression, addictive personality, jealousy problems & over analyzing everything. There are other little symptoms but regular for a girl.

Also I read on a particular website that psychosis sometimes occurs from severe head injuries...

I was hit by an 18 wheeler September 19th, 2008..30miles away from Knoxville, I was sitting @ a stand still on interstate waiting for a wreck up ahead to be cleared.. 18 wheeler going about 75mph hit the back of my BMW X3 & air did not deploy..(helicopted to the ER). It knocked my front teeth out (i now have dental implants.), broke both sides of my jar(wired shut for 2months), Doctor put me in a medical induced coma for 12days, Memphis Medical Rehab Centre for a month & I have a severe brain injury to my frontal lobe.

I am curious if Adderall will have a long term side effect on my brain because of the wreck & since I have been taking Adderall for 12 years?!?

The effects of taking amphetamines, such as Adderall, are very noticeable. Superb ability to focus and concentrate on tedious and/or boring tasks, ability to stay awake longer, loss of appetite, decrease cravings for nicotine (specifically in the form of Cigarettes), and a euphoric state are the effects of Adderall.

It depends on your body structure, weight, fat content, and tolerance. If it's your first time taking Adderall, you should feel these effects at any dose, however the effects are very much amplified and typically most desired at 20mg for a first-timer. More than that may bring on unpleasant reactions such as fever, rapid heart beat, dry mouth, dysphoria, and vomiting. Although these effects wouldn't typically be present in doses lower than 50mg w/ no tolerance, I would definitely avoid taking 70mg or more.
