A symbol in "Where the Red Fern Grows" is the red fern itself, which represents love, loyalty, and the bond between the main character Billy and his two dogs. The red fern also symbolizes the idea that hard work and dedication can lead to rewarding outcomes.

a red fern might be a good one. also, pictures of red coon hounds would be ok too.An ax that Billy used to kill the mountain lion and a ax that rubin had are some others. How about the trophies billy won at the contest?or the sack that billy used to carry old dan and little ann back home their first day?search the book for more answers, and there are a lot of other good ones. thanks.

You have to remember the whole story of the Red Fern is one about everlasting love. As the story starts the boy is grown and finds the coon hound with the homemade collar that was made by a child. This takes him back to his youth and the hounds he wanted and worked for. He was so poor that everyone told him he couldn't have a set of hounds to hunt with. The baking soda can he used to save his money became the symbol of his goal to getting those hounds. When he picks up the pups and spends the night in the cave with them they hear the mountain lion cry. The lion foreshadows the events to happen later in the book. Finally, the Native American story about the red fern tells it all when he sees the fern growing between the graves of his hounds that is the symbol of the entire story.

A symbol would be the red fern growing on Old Dan and Little Anne's grave. Another could be the oil lantern (It saved Little Anne's life) Or the trophies.
