What are some characteristics of dwarves in 'The Hobbit'?

J.R.R.Tolkien described the dwarves in â??The Hobbitâ?? as somewhat comedic and bumbling rather than previous incarnations where he had described them as evil. They are also shown to be honorable and humble but a bit money-grubbing when it came to gold.
