some characteristics of a virus:
- needs a host - can contain DNA or RNA
- can have an envelope
cell
- is an acellular organism
Viruses have some characteristics of life but these are not considered living organisms as they are non cellular.
Viruses have some, but not all, of the characteristics of living things.

A disease can be biotic or abiotic. If it is a bacteria it is biotic, but if it is a virus it is always abiotic, because viruses are not considered living because they cannot reproduce on there own, do not consume energy or give off waist.
Viruses do not have all the characteristics of life. They are missing life span, homeostasis, metabolism, growth and are not made of cells.
Computer viruses are grouped based on what types of files they infect, how they infect them, and what stealth techniques they use to hide.
- some viruses can be used in biological weapons- some viruses are used in the fight against pests
