Diffrent animals, weather changes,and diffrent trees
There are several animals that are on the endangered species list that are in the temperate rain forest. Some of the animals are the wooly monkey, ocelot, and the jaguar.

The primary consumers in a rain forest are the ones that directly feed on producers which are mainly plants. Some of these primary consumers include squirrels, ants, earth worms, slugs, birds and so many more.

There is a bit of "transition" between areas of permafrost and the coniferous forests, but yes, a few trees will grow over permafrost. These trees will grow if there is sufficient "relief" in the form of seasonal thawing. That thawing allows soil of sufficient depth to unfreeze and support a larger plant like a tree. Trees would need a little longer period of thawing and enough of the soil to thaw so they can survive than, say, bushes, shrubs or flowering plants like those of the tundra.
Much of the Hawai'ian island of Kaua'i is considered tropical rain forest. Other islands have some rain-forest ecology on the windward slopes. "Temperate" rain forests are found in the coastal regions of the West Coast, from the Oregon/California Border northward, continuing as far north as the Tongass National Forest near the Gulf of Alaska.
There are a great many threats to the temperate deciduous forest. Deforestation and clearing for farming are major threats.
