∙ 13y agoThere are many herbs different kinds of herbs used for medication.
In fact, almost all modern medications are based on certain plants or herbs, and the bark of certain trees. Early physicians ground the ingredients themselves as individual "doses" for each patient (and as such, each "dose" differed from the next dose).
Luckily, with pharmaceutical manufacturing companies today, people have access to a wide range of over-the-counter and prescription medications that do have standardized doses from pill to pill, from bottle to bottle, and lot to lot.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Today's actual "herbal" products sold over the counter are NOT medications. They have not been tested by the FDA or any worldwide testing organization, have not been standardized, do not come in standardized doses (meaning you can get more or less active ingredients from dose to dose), and are deemed highly unreliable because of differences in ingredients from batch to batch (bottle to bottle, package to package, or lot run to the next manufacturing lot run). A "lot run" is the processing of hundreds to thousands of bottles or packages at the same time which all carry the same "lot number".
