What is the difference between the bands of Duke Ellington and Count Basie?

Duke Ellingtons band played more complicated music than The Counts band. I see The Duke as the natural successor to Jelly Roll Morton a New Orleans Pianist/Composer who based his music more on The European Classics rather than the Blues. Do people still listen to 1940s swing music today?

Definitely, although not nearly to the extent they did back in the 1930s and 1940s. There are many radio stations and internet sites that broadcast swing and big band music, high schools sponsor "stage bands" that play swing, and many local and national orchestras play swing for dances and live audiences. Several of the major orchestras of that time continue to perform today, of course with new leaders and musicians but playing the music of their founders. To name just a few: > Tommy Dorsey > Count Basie > Glenn Miller > Gene Krupa > Artie Shaw Modern swing bands have been formed by people such as Gary Tole, Brian Setzer, and George Gee among many others.
